St. Peter was the very first Pope. He was one of Jesus' apostles. Peter's real name was Simon, but Jesus changed it to Peter. Jesus told him that Peter means rock, so I will build my church upon this rock. Jesus promised him the keys to the kingdom of Heaven.
St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City in Rome is named after Peter. There are many pictures of him in the church. Peter is buried in the basilica.
